Hey,

I'm currently attending a community college and I plan on transferring in the Spring 2006 semester. I'm an English major who plans on becoming an English professor at some point in my life, but for now I just love studying literature. Here's my stats, and below that some information about my current school and myself.

HS:

I did very poorly, but I am 25 and an adult student for lack of a better term, so hopefully those grades will not taint my chances

SATS:

Never took them, again, I was a slacker in high school.

College:

41 credits, 4.0 GPA from a community college (School does not have A+s, just As, 90-100, don't know if that will make a difference?)

I did not take any honors classes because I am an English major and the school barely offers any honors classes, let alone ones in English.

Teacher Recs:

Should be excellent. I am often the leader of discussions in my classes and all my professors love me and have strongly encouraged me to transfer. (I know that sounds conceited, but I'm normally a very modest person, but for this exercise I want to be as honest as possible.)

ECs:

Student Tutor in the Writing Center (Work Study job)
School Newspaper, writer

Also, in regards to ECs, my college offers very few opportunities. Most of the clubs are unorganized, and the school newspaper, in particular, publishes randomly. Sometimes its every week, other times months go by without an issue published, I suppose due to lack of interested writers.

I plan on mentioning all of this in my essay, explaining that I am a very dedicated student who would love to write for an organized school newspaper, and join various other clubs that appeal to my interests, but at my current institution I feel cheated in a sense because no opportunities are offered to me.

Applying to:

Syracuse
Binghamton
Geneseo
NYU
Oberlin
Cornell

Any advice as to what my chances are? I know UB, Geneseo, and Syracuse are most likely matches, but what about the others?

Many thanks!
