Transfer Student: Help me choose!

Hey all!

Community college student in NJ here on the verge of transferring to a school in state for Fall 2010.

I slacked in high school, not realizing the importance of doing well, but worked incredibly hard in college. Consequently, I've been admitted to Rutgers Business School - Newark (Can't apply to RBS NB, my CC didn't offer one of the eligibility reqs.) and TCNJ

I'm looking to do Finance/Accounting.

So here's my thought process, pros and cons.

I know TCNJ was on Business Week's 2008 best business school list at number 76, but it was absent from the list in 2009 while RBS Newark ranked somewhere in the 90s. I'm not sure if TCNJ is improving or if it will return to the list, but I know it's a great school for pretty much everything else, and has received some great honors and reviews; I'm just not sure if RBS Newark is better for business.

Also, RBS Newark just built a brand new facility and has been receiving some great recognition over the past year. Plus, I think RBS Newark is a little less rigorous than TCNJ, so if it's a little more recognized and a little easier that might be a plus.

I'm not sure how the job prospects for the schools are, but I know RBS has pretty good name recognition, plus the Newark campus is very, very, close to NY...so that could be a huge plus.

Some other things to consider: I'll be living on campus, and I don't think I qualify for any scholarships through TCNJ, but I could be considered for RBS Newark, so Newark might be cheaper. Also, I'm eligible for RBS Newark's honor's college as soon as I transfer (assuming they recruit me, I've got a 3.85 GPA the minimum is 3.5).

Any suggestions, anyone? It's a very tough choice, and I'd like to hear some opinions.

At this point, suggestions may be meaningless. If finances are an issue, ask this question again after you get your financial aid packages/scholarships. Right now, people might suggest the school that turns out to be the unaffordable choice.

Have you filled out your FAFSA? What is your EFC?

Financing it isn’t really an issue; just making the point TCNJ might cost me a little bit more than Rutgers. However, I don’t mind paying a little more if it will get me the best job prospects in the end.

I did not update my FAFSA for the coming school year, but the one for the last academic year didn’t get me anything.

Bump. anyone?

It sounds like the colleges are of comparable quality and prestige. I would go less expensive.

I’d say stay at RBS-Newark because to be honest TCNJ is known more for their education majors. To be honest, I never even knew TCNJ had a finance/business program. RBS-Newark also is right next to NYC so that gives you leverage for finding a job. Look at RBS-Newark’s Job Placement rates on their site if they post any or give the school a call cause I’m pretty sure they have some info. like that.

Thanks for the input so far :)

Better school.

Rutgers has better reputation outside NJ, but TCNJ in and around.
