How much do high school grades matter if you are applying to enter as a sophomore? My high school grades were probably the main reason that I was not admitted the first time around because I only had about a 3.6 unweighted.

Also should I send in my midterm grades for this term a little after spring break because I should have either a 3.9 or 4.0? And should I send in a teacher rec because I didn't do so when I first submitted my application? Those should only help my chances right?

I have been wondering the exact same thing man; I’m in a very similar position to you. I know that my grades aren’t as good this semester as they were last semester so I’m not sure. My high school GPA was a little higher (3.73). Also, I sent in two recommendations in with my application even though they weren’t required. One from my high school counselor and one from my Calc III professor. I’m sure recommendations wouldn’t hurt because it shows you’re serious, but I’m really not sure how much it would really help if anything. I just did it because I thought it would enhance my app a bit. I got a 3.8 first semester, but this semester I’m not sure if it’s going to work out so well. Has anybody heard anything about when we will get decisions back?

I haven’t heard anything back yet and the other person I know hasn’t either. The only thing Michigan sent me was some annoying email about needing to prove I’m an in-state student because somehow I’m not a Michigan resident anymore because I’m going to school out of state.

Where are you going to school right now? And are you in state or out of state? I mean those both matter because I’m pretty sure that if you go to a decent school, your gpa should count for more than if you go to some crappy school.

Michigan typically prefers to admit transfers as juniors. When applying for sophmore status they only have one year of college grades to look at, or to be more exact, one semester.

snacky you’re right. but i’m taking classes over the summer so i can at least transfer by winter 2012 because i’ll have all the prerequisite requirements done. and i indicated that clearly on my app that i’ll have all their requirements done before fall 2011 so i’m kind of hoping they will at least take that into consideration. anthony I go to Oakland U right now. Not the best school but certainly not a cakewalk. Better than being at a CC at least i guess… what about you?

Rocxc4life- Well your certainly going to a harder school than WCC so that’s already better than half the schools the transfer applicants go to. I currently attend the University of Pittsburgh. I’m hoping going to a school that loves to compare itself to Michigan helps. And how about your Golden Grizzlies, beating Tennessee at Tennessee while my Panthers couldn’t beat the Vols in the Consol Energy Center, which is in Pittsburgh. That was one of the low points of the season.

Yeah how about them golden grizzlies. We are definitely gaining some notoriety in the NCAA world no doubt. But that’s really our only well known sport. And on top of that, the engineering program here is ehhh compared to umich. It is what it is though. As a commuter school it kinda sucks, I would probably be having a much better time if i lived on campus but since I live 2 miles down the street I really can’t see spending all that money haha. That’s what you get when you put a decent university in a middle class area… TONS of commuters. But that sucks about losing at home. I haven’t really been following NCAA basketball this year, sad I know. But best of luck to you man hopefully next fall we will be wolverines.

Yeah dude, good luck to you as well. The only thing I regret giving up is the top ten basketball team for some crappy team that’s somehow still trying to rebuild, other than that I don’t regret anything. I really can’t wait to go back home and not have to always worry about how to get home during break.
