I just graduated high school this past June and am taking a year off but reapplying to schools this fall. Will i be considered a transfer student of freshman applicant?

You would be a freshman applicant. Transfers are for people that have already attended college and are attempting to change, or transfer, to a different school.

If you take even one community college courses post high school graduation you will change your status to transfer student when you apply this fall.

as Batllo points out, you need to be careful of taking any college class. There is no absolute that applies to every college in the land, some may not care, but I do know the UC system would consider you a transfer applicant if you take any college classes anywhere (except the summer immediately after HS graduation)

And to answer the next question, if you take college classes to avoid getting rusty (or for any other reason) and decide to “forget” to report them so you still qualify as a frosh admit, there is a national registry service that will catch that and your admission will be revoked.

mikemac is correct, while some schools consider you a transfer applicant with just one post-HS college course, others still classify you as a fr applicant if you have not completed a year of post-HS college, and others have credit limits. You need to go to the college website to find out their requirements.
