I was just wondering where UCSB transfer students normally house for there first year; in the Residence Halls ( San Rafael and Manzanita Village) or Isla Vista?

I was leaning more towards the residence halls because it gives me a chance to be more "in the loop" with events and meeting new people, but I was wondering where the majority of transfer students live.

Transfer students are going to get guaranteed housing in San Clamente. Many transfer students lived in the campus owned Single Student Apartments and the IV. Now that they built San Clamente and the school is offering guaranteed housing, we really don't know what is going to happen. We'll find out next year if the students actually want to life in campus owned apartments or the IV. San Clamente is right beside the campus, you should really consider it.

In regards to events, there is Single Student Apartment Community Council (SSACC). They arrange events for the students who live in West Gate, El Dorado, Santa Ynez and now San Clamente. If you join it, you'll get an opportunity to meet new people.

Thanks for taking your time to answer back, your information was very helpful. So if I considered one of the nonfreshmen residence halls, I wouldn't see any transfers, since the majority are in campus owned apartments?

You will find some transfers in the residence halls. I don't think there is anything called a non-freshmen residence halls, at least I haven't heard of it. I know in San Rafael or Manzanita there are some transfer and upper class men/women floors. I know some seniors who live in the residence halls. Those are usually the ones who like the dorm environment(which are rare cases).

Usually the transfer students prefer more space for themselves so they choose the Single Student Apartments.

thought sam clem was for grad students?

the housing office said that there wasnt enough grad students to fill up san clemente so theyre openning it up to transfer students. san clemente is also brand spankin' new so you should probably consider it.

Does anyone know if it's possible to edit the housing application after it's already been turned in?

I marked my 1st choice as Westgate but now I'm having second thoughts.

Im pretty sure you are able to edit your selection by the deadline, but the best thing to do is to call the housing office and let them know

Westgate is a nice place, why do you want to move out? It is a lot closer to the campus, practically walking distance.
