Hi, so I’m looking to possibly transfer to UMich for next fall as a junior. I’m a California resident and currently go to the University of San Diego as a sophomore and have a 3.91 GPA. If I get a 4.00 again this semester, I will have a 3.93. After this year, I will have 57 credits completed and of those credits, I have calc 1 under my belt and 4 semesters of Spanish (students at Michigan are required to take atleast 4 semesters of a foreign language) in addition to other challenging classes. My SAT score is a 2100, but idk why that would even matter because the purpose of the SAT is to predict how well you will do in college, and I’m already in college. I also have a part time job, I am a sorority sister, and I am also a tour instructor on campus and part of the university ministry. I have wanted to go to Michigan for a long time but didn’t get in when I applied my senior year of high school because my 9th-10th grade transcripts were just average (I did get a 4.5 for my senior year GPA and a 4.0 my junior year but that wasn’t enough). Ever since high school, I’ve been doing great here at USD. I plan on applying to Ross and LSA because if I don’t get into Ross, I would still want to go to LSA and major in economics since that seems to be the closest thing to business. I just want to know what my chances look like and if anyone who has gotten in to Ross or LSA in the past has any advice? Thanks!
Fortunately for you, the transfer acceptance to Ross has increased slightly (fro 1% to 5%). However, Ross has recently changed its admission process so I can only offer you advice based upon my own experience (I applied last year as an incoming sophomore for Fall 2016 admission). Statistically I think you’re in a pretty good spot, however make sure you will have completed Econ 101 as this is a prerequisite for admission. I would recommend acquiring some leadership roles (for job recruiting at Ross, leadership roles are MUST) and spending a good amount of time on your essays (let me know if you would like any advice on the essay questions). The essay are more important than most people would think they are; I was admitted with stats below yours most likely because of my career-related ECs and my essays.
**Also, Ross is a 3-year program so if admitted you will be entering as a sophomore not a junior.
