I’m looking to transfer to some top schools. I did very well during my first semester in college. I just am looking for some advice. How can I make myself stand out? Should I be reaching out to the schools to demonstrate interest? How should I write my essays? etc.
Ive been looking for similar advice too regarding top schools. Did mediocre in high school but really got my grades and extracurriculars together at CC. My problem is I don’t know if im being realistic with where im applying.
Just keep up the grades! Grades are king in applications. Other than that, try for the leadership positions. I had a lot of friends get into top universities like UCB and Columbia, they had perfect grades but also held leadership positions like the president of student government or VP of student finance. I would also say that they had interesting personal stories as well. One of my friends told me her goal in life was to study and archive dead languages. Another came from a war-torn county and wanted to get involved in international economics.
I feel like college admission officers, just like everyone, are looking for compelling stories to root for. Even if you don’t have an innately interesting life story, you might have an interesting goal or you might just have an interesting perspective on what you want to do in your field.
Bump: still looking for advice. I want to try transferring to Georgetown,Wharton, Columbia, Duke. I got a 4.0 at a top 20 LAC while playing a D1 sport and taking pretty rigorous courses
