Hello, I am transferring to a CCC after completing one year at a 4-year university (Financial reasons). I plan on attending the CCC until I complete 60 units then transfer to a UC. I had a few questions.

1) When I am enrolled at my CCC will my 4-year institution credits transfer over? Also, will the grades in those classes transfer over (I got some bad grades in a couple of classes)?

2) Would it be possible to select which credits/grades to transfer (I did well in basics like english/math, did poorly in biology/human sexuality)?

3) When it comes time to try to transfer into a UC, will my GPA consist of what I attained at my CCC, or what I attained at my CCC AND my 4-year institution?

1) quite possibly
2) no
3) CCC and 4-year...also note...you might have unit restriction because you have attended a 4-year...I would research that

1) Depends on the school, but they did for me. The grades, however, NEVER transfer unless it's within the same system. (Ie, if you have a UC GPA, it stays with you even if you transfer from, say, UCSC to UCB.)

2) No. No school I know of lets you hand-pick transfer points.

3) You will have 2 different GPAs: the one you earned at the CCC, and the one you earned at the 4-year. I don't recall what went on the application, but I believe you get yet another GPA which is based on how you perform in UC-transferrable classes, particularly those that satisfy breadth/major requirements.

YES on the unit restriction -- be careful. The UCs will take you if you have over 30 semester units at the CCs (or at least that's what they told me -- always double-check), but if you have more than 60 semester units (or 90 quarter units) from a 4-year, they will NOT touch you without special exception. Keep watch on this and make sure to keep in touch with counselors both from the school you wish to transfer to and the CCC you attend.
