Im in my 1st year of college and I want to transfer to a good drama school, preferably in NY or LA ( I live in NY). I have no acting experience. Anyone have any ideas? I'd prefer screen over theatre type of acting

First suggestion, get some experience! Drama, be it screen or theatre, is not for everyone! And if you are in your 1st year of college, you probably have opportunities around you to try it out. If not in school, then in the surrounding community. I’m not sure what school you go to, but take an acting class next semester, and talk to your teacher. Of course experience is not the most important thing, but most schools are looking for students with at least a good foundation.

If you’re adamant, the next thing you would have to decide is whether you want a BA or a BFA, each entail very different experiences and are for very different types of people. It’s great that you have decided to act, but there is a lot of work ahead of you. Acting is not easy, and takes a lot of hard work and late nights… Much like other majors lol… But if this is really what you’ve decided, then as I said, find out the differences between a BFA and a BA (I don’t have the time to type them out). And then get a list of good schools. And you’re in luck, because quite a few are located around NY/LA and Mass.

And btw, your name makes me think this is more of a joke than a serious inquiry…

I actually am serious. I’m looking for a good BFA program that I have a chance at getting into.

Bump. Any help?

Is there a better place to ask this question or something?

Take a look at AMDA or NYCDA.

OP, you asked this question when you first joined CC and got some good advice from people back then. Did you follow any of it? Apparently not, bc one important piece of advice was to get some experience and now, 9 months later, you still write that you have no acting experience. I’m sorry but you just can’t know that you want to major in Acting if you have never acted before…you don’t know if you are any good at it and you don’t know if you even like it. Perhaps this is why people are hesitant to answer your question.

I’m not trying to be harsh, but the reality is that getting into a BFA program with talent and experience is difficult to begin with and even harder as a transfer. I recommend that you get yourself involved in Theatre at your current school whether it is by taking classes and/or participating in student productions in whatever capacity you can. Good luck!
