Transfer to CALS

I am a freshman in Cal Poly SLO, and my major is Wine and Viticulture. Since there is a budget cut, graduating within 4 years seems impossible. Also, only private school that I know has Enology major is Cornell. What do I need to transfer to Cornell? I did not do well in high school, but I am doing so much better in college. I am getting almost Bs and As in my classes, but I know that Cornell is an ivy league school, which means very competitive and hard, and Cal Poly is so much easier compare to Cornell.

first of all, sweet major. Perhaps my only “if I had to do it all over again, I’d study X instead of Y”.

if you want a shot, follow these suggestions:

 • stay at Cal Poly for 2 years. Since your HS grades are not good, you want to minimize their impact on the application. 4 full college semesters is the best thing you can do (though you’ll be applying with grades from 3)
 • get the grades: 3.5+ gpa.
• think of a great reason to transfer, a reason you can discuss in your application. Not being able to graduate within 4 years probably isn’t a good enough of a reason to transfer, think of something else.
 • Learn about Cornell. Familiarize yourself with the courses being offered, the requirements, whose teaching you, etc.
• get in touch with admissions at Cornell, I think enology is in the College of Agriculture and life Sciences. You can start to coordinate the correct classes to make the process of transfering easier and it’s a good way to let them know you’re interested.
