I'm planning to drop out of LAC to go to a community college for a year (or three semesters) in California fill in requirements and credits to heighten my chances to transfer as a junior to a UC, especially UC Berkeley.

Does it matter which community college I go to at all? Is there a community college famous for its transfer program?

Use http://www.assist.org to see what CC courses at each CC are available to satisfy prerequisites for your major. Check each CC to see how available they are.

You’re a California resident, right?"

Each community college has its own character. As a first filter, look for community colleges that have a Transfer Alliance Program in place with your target UC. Here is an example list:

<a href=“TAP | Center for Educational Partnerships”>TAP | Center for Educational Partnerships;

Then, look for a place you would like to live (cost, ambience, accessibility to what you want: beach, transportation, jobs, etc.)

Next, as a filter, look at who has highest transfer rates- this indicates a well-functioning administration and a motivated student body:

http://www.cheaponlinecolleges.org/community-colleges/top-community-colleges-california/

http://money.cnn.com/pf/college/community-colleges/

Start there, and move right along! It will be a fun search.

As a final filter, scour the website of your target UCs and see where they have volunteer outreach activities- where they actually visit. UCLA has Santa Monica College, for example.

At CC, join the honors program and Honor Society, and get involved in some ECs.

There you go!

Happy2Help, I am a California resident.

ItsJustSchool, regarding the TAP Program, are there requirements to fulfill/ certain conditions to meet to become a TAP student?

@lune0726, yes. The deadline to apply is in September of your final year, and as I recall there are a minimum number of “Honors” classes and perhaps membership in the CC honor society. This makes it difficult (almost impossible) for those attending for only 1 year (e.g. lots of AP credit) to participate. Note, this is different from the TAG program, which has a later deadline and different (more straightforward) requirements.

@lune0726, I was only ever peripherally aware of the program, You will want to do more research yourself. I just saw a post by someone looking into the program, you may wish to PM him, @gt3x24x7, for more information.

I go to Berkeley City College right now and it’s right across the street from Cal! I heard it has the highest matriculation rates for UC Berkeley.
