Is it possible, as an entering freshman, to transfer from L&S to the School of Engineering? I was awarded an NROTC scholarship and one of the requirements was enrolling in a tier one major, which are all engineering. If it isn’t possible as an entering freshman, will I to be able to transfer into the School of Engineering after one quarter?
I believe you need at least two quarters worth of ‘engineering’ courseload (so 1 math and 1 science i believe) to be able to apply to hsseas (school of engineering). For most engineering majors, you need to maintain at least a 3.5 to be able to apply and even when you apply, it’s not a guarantee you’ll be accepted into the school.
it sounds like you are walking a tightrope without a net here.
If the scholarship requirement was for an engineering major, the prudent thing to do would have been to apply to an engineering major.
It is of course “possible” to change into CoE, you could have looked up the requirements yourself; that you ask “will I to be able to transfer into the School of Engineering after one quarter?” implies you have not bothered to do so.
Another concern you ought to have is your obligation assuming you are not successful in changing majors. Will you have to pay back the scholarship money? Will they require you to join the Navy in the enlisted ranks?
@mikemac it wasn’t a requirement to apply, I learned of this when I received the award letter. A few engineering disciplines are in tier one, every other STEM major is tier two. I won’t have any obligations to pay back or serve until the first day of sophomore year. My main concern is not receiving the scholarship because of not being initially enrolled in a “tier one” major.
@moonshakers thank you for the information
