Im currently taking an off-year from school for financial reasons and thinking about transferring. Last year I went to Howard University in DC intending to be a Film Productions major, and the experience was underwhelming. Im looking to hopefully find a diamond-in-the-rough school that's not super-expensive (under 20 grand), but where I can get a good education and build relationships.

I would preferably like to be either on the West Coast or down South because I like the warm weather, but that's not a prerequisite. If you know of a school or attend a school with a good film program where you can develop as a filmmaker by actually making films, then I'd be thankful to hear about it.

Malik- take a look at Florida State University. They take transfers into the film program (but not many 5-10 year!). It is an excellent program- in the south, and as a state school reasonably priced. The admissions are selective, but not impossible.

madden i would love to go to FSU, its just unlikely id be accepted. im now thinking about schools like baylor, ucf, washington, purdue, syracuse and such. i know, an extremely eclectic group.

If you would love FSU don’t completely write it off. They do say try a few reach schools, and I know of at least one student there that said (on a recent visit- we don’t know her personally) she didn’t have great grades or SAT’s but did write a very passionate and convincing essay and got in. They said they accept transfers in years 2 and 3 as well, but then you just go longer. Can’t hurt to try!
