Hey got some questions

Q1: Can I transfer to mccombs halfway into my sophmore year if I meet the requirements?

Q2: Does UT group cal 1 and cal 2 together in one semester? (If this is true, anyone please give some insight on that class)

Q3: I heard transferring to mccombs your junior year was discouraged. Is this true and for what reason?

Basically I will be taking cal 1 or 2 (or both) starting my sophmore year and I want to know the best course of action to get into mccombs.

Thanks, some questions have been answered. I didn’t know you had to take a foreign language!! Good thing I read that. Also can anyone answer my Q2? Is Cal 1 and cal 2 the same class?

And is transferring junior year discouraged? I don’t care as long as it’s possible, I don’t mind graduating later or doing summer school.

You only have to take a foreign language if you major in international business.

It’s not discouraged, it’s just tougher because a lot of business classes are pre-reqs to each other so it’s tough to graduate on time.

What do you mean by “calculus 1” and “calculus 2”? Which calculus topics are you talking about?

@longhorndan, stop talking out of your ass. It’s not hard to graduate if you transfer as a junior. I did and can graduate a semester early if I want to.

@moritsuna 2) No, they don’t.

3) It is discouraged for a few reasons. First, your GPA will be reset if you’re an external transfer. If you have a hard time adjusting to UT classes (which you will if you come from a CC or crap uni.), you’re basically screwed when internship interviews are in full swing come Feb-Apr. Also, the toughest courses at McCombs are the accounting classes. If you take the intermediate acc. pre-reqs at another school, you will suck unless you put 30-40 hrs/wk into studying for that class alone.

Lastly, it’s college. You should meet as many people as possible. Transferring as a sophmore gives you more time to do that.

I’m not talking out of my ass. It’s possible, as you have done it, and I will be able to do it. But, if you major in finance, unless you start accounting before you’re accepted, you’ll have an extra semester because of the pre-reqs. It just takes a bit of planning.

Can anyone tell me about the Demonstrate Foreign Language Proficiency (one of two ways):
Two years of the same foreign language in high school.
One year (2 semesters) of the same foreign language in college.

Can anyone confirm it’s only for IB? If so they really need to update their site…

EDIT: Also I am planning on doing internal transfer from UT Austin’s liberal arts college, if I get in my Junior year will I be ok if I plan on “not” graduating on time? Graduating on time isn’t top of my priority compared to having a good accounting education with a reasonable time for internships.

(Otherwise I might have to do economics + MPA)

To declare any major in McCombs, you have to clear any foreign language deficiency first. To do this you will need to show either a hs transcript with 2 years of the same foreign language or a college transcript with 1 year of the same foreign language. A 1-semester, 6 credit beginner course (such as Spanish 601D, German 604, French 601C, etc.) at UT will fulfill this requirement as well.

Only for IB will you need to take several additional semesters of that foreign language in order to graduate with that degree.

You can check out the degree plans at: [Business Majors - BBA - McCombs School of Business - The University of Texas at Austin | McCombs School of Business | The University of Texas at Austin](International Business | Academics | BBA | McCombs School of Business)

As a junior transfer, you shouldn’t have any problem graduating on time with an accounting degree if you transfer in with the core nearly complete, along with both economics, calculus 1&2, and intro accounting 1&2 (maybe take at ACC?) beforehand. If you can settle for an accounting minor, you can wait to take those two accounting classes at McCombs, no problem graduating on time. If you don’t care about graduating a semester later then you’re golden whatever you decide!

I’m transferring from HCC to McCombs with the core complete (so I won’t have to take UGS), both economics, all calculus courses, both accounting’s, MIS, speech, plus extra credits to cover the required free electives. This was done in 2 years including summer classes and no AP/clep credits. I actually have enough room to choose any major and minor I want. Tbh, I will probably have to take some PE classes just to complete 60 hours in residence lol. I am far from discouraged and I don’t think any other Junior should be if they plan right.
