Transfer to Michigan state, dorm or apartment?

Hello, first I would like to say Why this is so hard for me to decide,

Dorm: I would make a LOT of friends, and I would get to be a "kid" it sounds silly but I have had serious responsibilities ever since middle school like paying rent and working, and never really got to experience regular kid life. Michigan States dorms are also not bad and it's closer to campus and beautiful, I would also get to make friends, seeing as I know no one down there it would be great.
Cons: I'm 21, and rules are a bit more strict than apartments, but the thing is I wouldn't really do anything if I lived in an apartment that I don't do now living in my apartment up here.

Apartment: it's beautiful, it is like 4 miles from campus, and has a lot of wonderful amenities, that I would not have in a dorm (my own bathroom and kitchen ect)
Cons: really hard to meet people, and off campus so I would have to commute (although not far)

The reason this is so hard for me to decide is because after my brother passed I had to grow up really quickly, and I really just want to be a "normal" college student, I kind of worry about living in a dorm though, because I make hip hop music, and am worried I May bother my roommate or floormates...

All and all I really could just use some advice, the cost isn't much different id save about $800 a year in the apartment (oh it's 1300sq feet btw) so it's just a matter of privacy versus ability to make friends, which honestly sounds kind of appealing, but there's also the trade off of most likely not being able to make music or anything I'm not sure what to do...

I’m sorta in the same situation you are, though it doesn’t sound as complicated for me as it is for you. I plan on transferring to a school that I’ll know no one at, yet I’m not sure if I want to live on campus or at in apartment.
Here’s a question for you, how many more semesters are you going to be at Michigan State for? There’s always that option of staying on campus for a semester and then living in an apartment after that. That way, you’ll have made some friends and then after that semester you’ll be living on your own, but you’ll still have had the time to be a “normal” college kid.

There’s also the other option of joining sports teams or clubs so that you can make friends. Also, getting a job in an area nearby so that you can meet people your age…

Best wishes darling, I’m sure you’ll figure it out. :)

Honestly, if you’re looking for the “experience” stay in the dorms. There was more than one person in my dorm freshman year that was 20/21 and we didn’t notice much (until we noticed that they could buy alcohol).

I’m not sure why you assume you can’t make music. No, you can’t be obnoxious about it, but you can definitely play. Plus dorms like Sny-Phi have music rooms in the basement that you can sign out a key for and play to your heart’s content :)

You can always move out at the semester break if you decide the dorm is not for you.
