transfer to notre dame from wake forest

hey so I am in a bit of a bind. I have wanted to go to notre dame my whole life. my sister went there and i've been out to south bend many times. i got rejected by notre dame as a senior in high school, and decided to attend wake forest university. I soon realized Wake wasnt the right fit, and notre dame is still my dream school. I applied to transfer into notre dame in the fall of 2011 but was rejected again. I am going back to Wake Forest this fall but still want to transfer. It is difficult though as I really want three full years at the school of my dreams. is there any way if I got in for the Spring semester of 2012 that I could defer admission and enter notre dame as a sophomore in the the fall of 2012? I would appreciate any help. Also, is it difficult transferring to notre dame? how is the transition socially?

Hey man…I transferred from the University of Michigan so I was in a similar situation. My recommendation would be…JUST GET IN. Honestly, don’t worry about the semester at which you transfer because that should be an ancillary concern for you. First things first–you need to actually get accepted. The committee may very well be accommodating but you should definitely make sure you have a standing acceptance before you start asking for favors.

As for the transfer process in general…it’s neither easier nor harder–it’s just different. Your application is based mostly off of performance at the college level (which is much more telling that in high school when it was your ACT/SAT score). If you can show that you’re capable at the college level to succeed then you’re in great shape. Your situation mirrors mine because we both did our freshman year at a top 30’ish school so Notre Dame definitely likes to see that progress.

Did you not do well your first year? Hopefully you’re not trying to do business because ND officially no longer allows transfers into Mendoza (I would know because I was literally the last one!).

Thanks for replying! I have been waiting for someone to respond haha. but of course, I have never even brought that up the admissions committee and I am focusing on just getting in. I did ok my freshman year. First semester I took a difficult Latin class and didnt get the grade I wanted. But second semester I got straight B+'s which is very very hard to do at wake forest. The only thing i worry is that I will have a slightly lower gpa then other because of wake forest. it is known as “work forest” and A’s are very hard to come by. Do u think they will take into account that im going to a top 25 university? and no I am applying to the arts and letters. thanks for the response!

They’ll definitely take into account the fact that you’re going to a good school so don’t worry about that type of thing. I would also advise that you keep in contact with them all the time. I was very political with always hitting the admissions guy up and, at the end of the day, he was the one who personally called me (while I was at work lifeguarding over the summer!!) to let me know I was accepted. That was a great touch so I hope you experience the same thing! Good luck!
