Transfer to NYU Stern from UC Berkeley?

Hi, I'm currently a freshmen at UC Berkeley and I'm looking to transfer to NYU Stern School of Business. I would like to know what kind of stats I'd need, and the steps I should take in order to transfer.

I am an international student and was planning to apply to Haas at Berkeley during 2nd year, but knowing my chances and looking at the state of my classes right now, I think I might have a better shot at getting into Stern (plus I have family living in NYC and I've always wanted to live in nyc).

My high school stats:

IB: 41/45
SAT I: 2310 (800CR, 720M, 790W)
SAT II: 770 Chem, 770 Math IIC, 790 Chinese

I don't know my UCB gpa yet, but I'm not doing so well right now...

My questions:

I was waitlisted at NYU Stern and then got rejected when i applied as a freshman. Will that do me any good?

Is it worth transferring to Stern just because I don't think I'll get into Haas? Will an Econ degree at Cal be just as promising?

Has anyone else transferred to NYU Stern, not from a community college - what were your stats?

Much appreciated! :)

Hi corrinder95, I didn’t get accepted but I thought my input may be helpful. Being wait-listed and subsequently rejected will not do you any good in the transfer process. It is worth trying to transfer to Stern as a degree from Stern will get you better job prospects than an Econ degree from UCB.

I am also an international student. I was rejected to Stern as a transfer and now study Econ at CAS. My stats at the time of my application to Stern was as follows:

Undergrad GPA (2 years): 3.8/4.0
SAT: 2200

I think that you have a good chance of getting in - frankly, I don’t know why you were rejected as a freshman. Your stats are superb.

Thanks for input! If Stern doesn’t accept me, then will i be considered an applicant for CAS just like in the freshmen process or will i have to apply separately to both Stern and CAS (or more like, can i)?

Transfer acceptance rates to Stern are extremely low as not that many people transfer out. Sure its worth a shot if you really want to come to Stern but keep in mind that if you already applied and were rejected then unless something drastically changed in your application in favor of your candidacy you can expect the same result.

To address Marinozai’s point - a 2300+ SAT & 4.0 GPA does not mean automatic acceptance to the Stern. The school gets enough applicants with sky high/near perfect stats so my advice to you would to do some research into what Stern values and incorporate that in your application.
