Transfer to Occidental

Could a current Occidental student take the time to "chance" me please?

Whittier College (Private, not Rio Hondo Community College)
Freshman
4.0 GPA fall semester (Dean's list)
Art History and French Language double major (taking higher level French courses as a freshman)
Photography Editor for the school's weekly newspaper
French Tutor

My high school record was very mediocre. I made the unfortunate choice to not take any AP or honors courses, even though I knew I could've excelled in them. I graduated high school with a 3.87 GPA, still reaching in the top 7% of my class at a large public school.

My extra activities during high school would be both advanced concert band and marching band for 3 years, cross country for one season, and a lot of volunteer hours with my church.

I want a second chance at Oxy because I need to be in a more academically focused campus.

Thanks in advance!

SAT scores?

Crit Reading: 600
Math: 560
Writing: 610

I wasn't a motivated student during high school so I didn't care about my SAT scores. I'm against these tests because I don't think they truly reflect on a student's capabilities. Although, I understand the reality of admissions and I know that my scores aren't up to Oxy standards.

I may be wrong but I don't believe Oxy cares about your SAT scores once you're transferring in.
From your current stats, you should be a shoe in. your gpa is really really good.

Considering your major(art history and french) is there a reason why Oxy? I may be wrong, but from the impression I got from Oxy when I toured(and I'm a prospective transfer) their connections into the Art World aren't as great as UCLA or USC's.

a 3.9 doesnt look mediocre to me

i would look into liek's claim about your sat scores. if it is true, you stand a very, very good shot at being accepted...if not, you still might be competitive

gl

I am not getting all of this. Please help me out if anybody has the info, but why does occidental need a copy of SAT scores from transfer students? this is stupid. the fact i didnt even do any exam no sat, act, I ve just done really well in my 2 years at my college but this is really disapointing! this school requires so so much, they need high school records I didnt do that great either. I thought that all universities dont care about high school records. Maybe i am being misunderstood or something but I just feel down and out when I was about to apply. maybe somebody can guide me on this info, its completely ridiculous. On top of that for freshman applicants ( not my case) the school says that students are required to live on campus? thats pretty dull why would a school make someone live at the college? thats really unfair, not everyone necessarily wants to live at a college. oright hope to hear from any of you soon take care!

I certainly hope you have a great shot because I have a 3.69 and Oxy is my number one school. ;)

chesser, how long have you been out of school? Oxy only needs SAT scores if you have been out of school less than five years. As for freshman living on campus, that is pretty common. A lot of schools require that because it helps acclimate the new students to the area.

I've found that most schools want a high school record of some sort, especially private schools. I did confirm recently with Oxy that if you have a GED or equiv they just want that and don't need the final high school report, or at least that was my case. I think the HS record is just to confirm you graduated more than anything.

hey "That PoshGirl, I sent you a private message yesterday, did you get it, can you please give me your e-mail to keep in touch and talk about oxy?

@chesserforlife: i love that oxy requires two years of dorming. if people don't want to live on campus, they don't have to go to oxy. i see nothing unfair about that.

i’ve submitted my app to oxy and am still waiting to hear back.
i’m on the east coast, but i don’t know if that makes too much of a difference.

anyone receive transfer acceptance/rejection letters yet?

They are supposed to go out at the beginning of May.

Accepted with a 3.6 from a community college honors program.

Congrats. I’m still waiting (I’m also a community college student, also honors program). I wonder what the hold up is. I’m only one state away.

Even if I get in I can’t afford to move in time for Fall and I doubt they will let me enroll for Spring instead. So I guess it doesn’t matter.

Are you going?

I got waitlisted. According to the letter they had 450 applicants for 40 spots. So that is about 100 more applicants and 20 fewer spots from last year.

GPA: 3.69
School: Community College (honors)

Good recs, PTK, weak essay

well luckily you got waitlisted, this university was the only one which rejected me this year, and I thought I was 100% in. good luck to you though, I really think your essay was perfect because they are very strict in their admissions this year. I also thought my teacher recommendation was over the charts of great, but well surprises do happen.
