Transfer to Penn or Columbia?

Hi everyone,

So I have a decision to make. I am a journalism and history student at NU, but I was recently accepted as a transfer student to Columbia and Penn. Although I originally wanted to study journalism in college in order to become a war correspondent, I've started to realize that journalism school is not the only route to a journalism school. I am more interested in studying political science and history in college, although being a war correspondent is still on the table.

In your opinion, should I stay at NU, head to Columbia, or head to Penn?

Thanks so much!

What makes you want to transfer? Why do you want to leave NU and why would you want to go to Columbia or UPenn?

Columbia is very strong in History and Political Science. NU and Penn are also good. Are you happy at NU? Have you made friends? Are there financial implications? I would be inclined to recommend staying put. Starting all over again is not easy is you are already well established at NU. Besides, NU is as good as Columbia and Penn, so it is not like you would be trading up!

Alexandre is right on. If you really want to transfer Columbia would make sense, it’s in NYC which is always a good training ground for war zones. Plus, internship/ life experience opportunities in NYC would be valuable for a budding journalist. Otherwise stay at nu.
