I’m looking to transfer to either Rutgers Newark or Montclair State University for the Fall 2017 semester and was looking for feedback on my chances.
I am 24-years old (so not a traditional student). I dropped out of High School at the end of my senior year (2009) and received my GED (HiSET exam) last May (obtained a 19/20 in every subject except math which was a 14/20. A passing score is at least 8/20 and a total of 45 points on all 5 subjects).
I completed my first year of college this May, finishing with a 3.875 GPA overall.
My course list and grades for the first year are as followed:
Fall 2015:
Financial Accounting: B
Introduction to Business: A
Principles of Macroeconomics: A
English Composition I: A
Spring 2016:
English Composition II: A
Introduction to Information Technology: A
Success: A
General Psychology: A
Introduction to Java Programming: W
Speech Communication: W
(The 2 W’s on my Spring 2016 list were both Wednesday classes and once the semester started, I had to take care of a sick relative on that day and I just couldn’t make it to those classes so I withdrew. Not sure if it matters, but I just wanted to put those on there just in case.)
I don’t really have any EC’s. I am a member of my CC’s Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society chapter, which I’m sure will help, but that’s really it.
My major is tech related and to help with self-study, I built a home computer lab in order to practice programming, simulations, repair projects, learning the ins and outs of OS’s, etc… I’m not sure if that would help me in getting either Rutgers Newark or Montclair State, but I know a lot of people put on their job applications in my field of study about having a home computer lab for the purpose of self-study and it helps immensely, so I’m thinking of talking about it in my essay.
So, what are my chances?
