Transfer to UCLA Business Econ/ UC Berkeley Haas

Hi all,
I am a freshman transfer student at Berkeley City College and my first year is almost over.

My stats are:

GPA: 4.0- Yes I’m on track to complete this semester with a 4.0.
I have 72-75 units total planned- 2 full years of math with 2 1/2 years of calc and a semester of stats.
2 full years of chemistry- General and Organic.
1 full year of English.
1 semester of business, financial and managerial accounting, 2 semesters of economics, 1 semester of business law (maybe),
1 full year of biology.
Potentially a semester of physics.
1 semester of intro to tutoring - doesn’t count because it’s 1 credit.
4 on AP US History
4 on AP Human Geography
*I took a lot of stem one because its hard and 2 because i love it. If you guys think I should do some humanities gladly post.

Test Scores:

Bloomberg Aptitude Test: 85th Percentile- Tests financial aptitude and reasoning.

Extracurriculars:

Founder and Manager of the Investors Organization at Merritt College; we have 20+ members and are continuing to grow. We teach people and engage the community in the markets and present networking opportunities.

Member of the Merritt College Business Club

Member of the PTK Honors Society

I was a student at the Investment Banking School- 1 month intensive bootcamp on financial modeling.

I am planning on being a secretary in the student body at either BCC or Merritt College and work my way up to a higher leadership position.

Founder of the leukemia fundraiser foundation beginning in summer.

Work Experience:

Research Intern at UCSF- still continuing.
Im on track to publish 3 scientific papers- 1 in clinical research and 2 in basic science.

Nominated by english professor to be an English tutor in the writing center.

** I am trying to lock in an internship at a private wealth management firm- lets assume that I do get it, and I don’t. Answer for both as I am not sure what will come- I have been networking like hell to try and get my foot in the door.

How many pets do you have?

Awesome work experience and even better coursework, but EC’s are seriously weak. Being a member of 2 clubs is hardly worth mentioning, and you said you were “thinking” of being a secretary in your student body. That would mean that next fall would be when you would first start doing it so by the time you apply you will have maybe 2 months worth of activities to report, pretty sure they will be able to tell which activities you were serious about and which you just threw on your application last minute.

@mikesauce I have to disagree with you on this. OP has some awesome ECs. You’re not seeing them all:

Founder and Manager of the Investors Organization at Merritt College
Member of the Merritt College Business Club
Member of the PTK Honors Society
1 month intensive bootcamp on financial modeling
secretary in the student body at either BCC or Merritt College - OMIT???
Founder of the leukemia fundraiser foundation beginning in summer
Research Intern at UCSF- still continuing
3 scientific papers- 1 in clinical research and 2 in basic science
English tutor in the writing center
locking in an internship at a private wealth management firm

Personally I would forget about the secretary one.

I think you have a very strong portfolio for Haas.

Yeah, I’m not exactly so sure on that, just a thought. At CC you gotta take any chance you can get!

@MikeSauce I appreciate your criticism and point taken regarding the secretary. Nevertheless, I think you read it wrong. I am only the ‘member’ of the business club. I am actually the FOUNDER of two clubs, one since the beginning of the winter term- The Investors Organization and we have 20+ members and are growing. I also have submitted work to set up the Leukemia Fundraiser foundation. You might say well you apply in August so what the hell is that gonna do, it looks like just something you tack on to ‘kiss ass.’ Well, unfortunately, the opportunity was given to me a week ago.

Yes, my daughter did the whole Associated students route, on committees, then the board at her CCC. It was super-easy, hardly any hours at all. It worked for her, but you have a lot of strengths, so maybe focus more on the business side of things or the research. Haas will look more favorably on that, I believe.

Half of that is work experience, which I did say was awesome  I meant like the business club and PTK, I feel like being a member is something like the Deans/Presidents list, of course theyre great but anyone competitive will have it too.

And yes I am being critical, how else will your application improve? lol

They count internships as ECs.

@MikeSauce agreed.
