Transfer to UCLA or UCSD STEM major with 2 B's?

Hello, I am applying to transfer to UCLA or UCSD fall 2015. I am currently in my first year of community college, and I plan on finishing up next year. This first year I have gotten A’s in all my classes except for 2 physics courses so far. By the time I apply in the fall my GPA will either be 3.59-3.72 depending on what I get on my last physics course this spring. I am planning on applying as a physics, or some engineering major. I really don’t feel like I stand a chance because of my 2 B’s which really impacted my GPA. Can someone tell me their transfer experience, or if I do stand a chance at all?

My first year courses (which is the 2014-2015 school year) I have taken:
Calculus 2: A
Programming Logic: A
Physics (Mechanics): B
English: A

Psychology: A
Humanities: A

Calculus 3: A (my projected grade)
Physics (Electricity and Magnetism): B
Physics (Quantum): ~ (In progress)

These are the grades I’ll have when I apply in the fall. Plus maybe some GE courses during the summer.

Are you taking a lot of units? You shouldn’t have a problem getting into San Diego with your GPA but I hear Jacobs at UCSD is terrifyingly competitive and if you’re struggling to get A’s with 12 units you should start trying to make changes to your study habits before you transfer so you’re prepared for what awaits you.

I’m currently taking 15 units. My calculus class is 15 units (16 weeks), and my physics class is 5 units each. Each course is part of an accelerated program so each of my physics classes only lasts about 8 weeks.

I took 16 units last semester, and got A’s except for mechanics, which I got a B in. I still have hope as a physics major, which isn’t part of Jacobs, right?

I got into UCSD for computer science last year and I had never stepped foot in a calculus class, so I think maybe they’re not super strict with some technology majors, but I have also heard that UCSD likes to make their lower division classes for computer science rather rigorous and that was just one reason why I decided not to attend.

Was computer science an impacted major when you applied?
Is is alright if I ask you your stats when you applied?

I’m fairly sure that last year (Fall 2014), computer science was not impacted at UCSD. This was information I saw on Ms. Sun’s blog and that it would switch to impacted status this year, but again, I haven’t researched it that much.

Sure, I had a 4.0GPA at the time of applying, but it dropped down to a 3.93 after I received a B in stats. I also only had 59 UC units completed (another reason why I was scared to actually accept their offer - I didn’t have enough units). I had a handful of programming courses like Java, data structures, and object oriented programming, but my math was extremely lacking; stats was the only math course on my transcript.

Computer Science is impacted now. Your GPA is was stellar though! 3.93 is still a very respectable GPA.
I’m still on the edge about staying in Comp Science and other majors due to the lack of Comp Sci classes my school offers. I don’t feel prepared for it at all. By the time I transfer I’ll only have C++ under my belt.
