Transfer to UCLA.

I'm thinking about transfer to UCLA in Fall 10. Right now I am major in economics and mathematics at Michigan State U.
My Cumulative GPA is about 3.8 (hopefully it will be higher before i transfer..).
Do you guys think I have a chance?

econ/math is a pretty easy major to be accepted to granted you have most of the prereqs done and a decent gpa. you should be fine.

exp8 you do know this applicant is in a whole diff pool… they are out of state and already attending a 4 year, its going to be very hard to transfer to UCLA. Try to go to a california CC for a year become a resident and then apply with that GPA + TAP and you will get in.

don’t listen to simon…
with a GPA like that, you’ve got as decent a shot as anyone… you’re down a few notches on so far as priority goes, but still…
if you don’t get in, it won’t be the end of the world.
finish up, maintain that GPA, and do whatever you want for grad school.

so do you have a chance? definitely.

good luck.

OOS and International are in the same pool… this year people with 4.0s got declined. I got declined as an OOS freshman with fantastic SATS, IB and around a 4.4… so this is speaking from experience since I thought I would still be OOS when i applied I researched it all.

All majors from the economics department are heavily impacted, so you’d have a difficult time transferring to one of their majors (no matter where you’re coming from).
There’s a major called Mathematics/Economics that’s through the math department, which sounds like it may be right for you. Every major from the math department has at least a 50% admit rate for transfers, the Math/Econ major is at 70%. I’d say you have a good chance. But don’t count on switching majors once you’re accepted, they’re privy to that trick.

The Math/Econ acceptance rate is going to drop down this year at UCLA, because:
(01) Budget
(02) UCLA informed numerous CCC counselors that selected students should apply as Math/Econ instead of Econ or BizEcon. 2 different counselors confirmed that it would lower heavily, one saying Math/Econ will be around 55% and the other saying it will be around 50%.

Nevertheless, even if the predictions are correct (you know how CCC counselors can be), 50% is still pretty high for the average GPA.
