Hello,

I am currently a freshman at BU and am looking into transferring to University of Washington. I am originally from Washington and love the school but came to BU because I wanted something further from home. I originally wanted to go to Brown or Georgetown but got wait listed and not into those two so I ended up at BU. I have not been fully happy with my decision to come here from the beginning but I am thinking that has to do a little but with having a bad attitude after not getting into my two top schools. I'm just looking for some outside advice on which school would be better? I also have the option to be on the varsity crew teams at both schools.

varsity crew. washington. no brainer haha

youll be in company with olympians …ultimate social networking for life

washington is the best rowing program in the nation

If going to UW would make you happier then go for it.

I’m a freshman debating transferring from BU, too!

Are you leaning towards UW because it’s closer to home? Did you apply anywhere aside from Brown, UW and Georgetown? Can you send a letter of intent/have a professor send a letter of intent to Brown or Georgetown telling them how much you want to attend?

If you’re not happy at BU and you think that being closer to home and at UW would make you happier, go for it. Also consider the advantage of instate tuition versus high private school costs. I’ve heard mixed reviews about BU. I’ve had friends transfer out because of their deflated grading scales, and then there is my dad and his buddies who are alumni of BU and absolutely would not trade anything for their college experience… but again that was in the late 1960s.

I have huge scholarship to BU so the costs are comparable to the instate at UW. My biggest issue with going to UW is that Boston is such a fun and exciting city. I’ve seen Seattle and I feel like by transferring I will be giving up an opportunity to explore bigger things. At the same time though, I am a husky at heart and I would LOVE to be a part of the culture that surrounds UW. Pretty much my choice stands at stay at BU and look past the downfalls of the school and try to get more involved in the city, or go to UW be a part of a college community and hold off on the new experiences until after undergrad…

Here is my opinion. I’ve applied to BU three times, waitlisted, accepted (couldn’t go for personal reasons), and waiting on the decision the third time. I’ve also applied to UW three times (accepted, rejected, waiting), so I am familiar with both schools. I would prefer Washington over BU but I am from the west coast originally, so Boston is a huge change. They are both good schools with a lot to offer, if I were you I would maybe think about transferring after your sophomore year if you want to give BU more of a chance.
