Transfer to University of Washington - Biomedical Sciences PhD program

I am currently pursuing PhD in Biomedical Sciences in my first year from MUSC with an average GPA of 3.8 so far. I am willing to take a transfer to UofW next fall due to personal reasons. Just wanted to know an estimate of my chances. Is there anything I can do to improve my chances, like mailing professor etc.

Is taking a transfer generally easier or harder than a new admission in PhD?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Its not that easy to get into the phd program. start emailing professors with similar research interests. personally, i will either go there or Skype faculty who gonna be on the committee. it helps if someone knows you. it enhance your chances your chances to get in. having a great resume and recommendation letters influence the decision as well. Have you published any papers?also consider a scenario where you don’t get a fellowship, will you be able to pay the tuition? (don’t limit yourself to uw only)
