I applied to USC today and was wondering what the next steps in the process are? Is it just a waiting game? Also, I read somewhere if you get a letter in the mail then that means you were denied, but if you get a packet that means acceptance?

As long as you sent everything in, you pretty much wait until June to hear back from them. At almost any college you apply to a packet will almost always mean acceptance. Now when it comes to transfers, a letter may not mean outright rejection. A letter could be a spring grade request.

You should be prepared to supplement your app with anything significant that can strenghten your app in the interim (e.g. next quarter’s or semester’s grades, especially if they show improvement, if you haven’t gotten a decision by then).

My D heard back in mid to late July & was accepted as a spring transfer admit. It was a packet but since it was so late before she heard anything, she had despaired.
