I need to know my chances of transferring to UW Seattle from UW Tacoma with 2.9 GPA. Ideally I want to be able to transfer in to the Foster School of Business so I’m applying to transfer for the winter quarter. I know I don’t have a stellar GPA but I have a good reason - I was going through some major depression and family pressure issues.
I’m a really good student, got really good grades in high school until my junior year when I took too many AP classes at once and was not able to handle the pressure so I failed a lot of classes and barely graduated with a 2.7. It was a rough last two years of high school and I tried to do better the first year at UW Tacoma but the pressure from my family and their disappointment led me to depression. I failed classes again and had to retake several. Recently for the past two quarters I worked really hard in my classes and got above 3.0s and a couple above 3.5. The recent achievements got me out of that depressive state and motivated me to be the best student I can be, because that’s who I originally was. And I learned to do things for myself and choose for myself and not because my family wanted me to.
Though my GPA is getting better, it’ll still be around a 2.9 by the time I apply. I heard that the admissions will see that I have an upward trend for the past two quarters and the one I’m currently working on so I hope they will see the kind of student I really am.
What are my chances of transferring? Do you think this is a good enough reason that the admissions might just accept me? Some other minor reasons are that I want to minor in computer science which they don’t offer at UW Tacoma and since I live in the Mill Creek area it takes me an hour and a half to commute to and back. UW Seattle is just 20-30 min away from me.
