Transfer to UW Seattle with 2.9 GPA into foster business school??

I need to know my chances of transferring to UW Seattle from UW Tacoma with 2.9 GPA. Ideally I want to be able to transfer in to the Foster School of Business so I’m applying to transfer for the winter quarter. I know I don’t have a stellar GPA but I have a good reason - I was going through some major depression and family pressure issues.

I’m a really good student, got really good grades in high school until my junior year when I took too many AP classes at once and was not able to handle the pressure so I failed a lot of classes and barely graduated with a 2.7. It was a rough last two years of high school and I tried to do better the first year at UW Tacoma but the pressure from my family and their disappointment led me to depression. I failed classes again and had to retake several. Recently for the past two quarters I worked really hard in my classes and got above 3.0s and a couple above 3.5. The recent achievements got me out of that depressive state and motivated me to be the best student I can be, because that’s who I originally was. And I learned to do things for myself and choose for myself and not because my family wanted me to.

Though my GPA is getting better, it’ll still be around a 2.9 by the time I apply. I heard that the admissions will see that I have an upward trend for the past two quarters and the one I’m currently working on so I hope they will see the kind of student I really am.

What are my chances of transferring? Do you think this is a good enough reason that the admissions might just accept me? Some other minor reasons are that I want to minor in computer science which they don’t offer at UW Tacoma and since I live in the Mill Creek area it takes me an hour and a half to commute to and back. UW Seattle is just 20-30 min away from me.

Here are the transfer stats: (They only show community college transfers, but you get the idea)

Your chances for business are not good. Your chance of being able to get into Computer Science is probably worse.

If you really want to reduce your commute from Mill Creek, why not UW Bothell?

I’m applying to UW Bothell as well because I know I might not get in to Seattle. But I’ve always wanted to go to UW Seattle and the Foster business school has much more to offer. As a back up major I’m also applying for the economics department.

There’s so many more opportunities for UW Seattle students especially with job recruiting and internships which is why it’s such a big deal for me.

There are more opportunities at UWS, but you will be competing with a larger student body to get them. UWB has a quarter of the UWS undergraduate student body.

For UWS, it is important to go through the transfer worksheets and have the recommended classes to be a strong candidate. Go to a Transfer Thursday session if you can so you are clear on what they are looking for.
