Hey, I got accepted into UW Tacoma as a pre-major transfer. I have 4 classes left to take to apply for the Business program. But I want to take those classes at the UW. I got accepted with a GPA of 2.8. I want to go to the UW Seattle, I just didn't have time to apply for it because I owed a school money at the time... anyways, do you think I should just go to Tacoma even though they don't have a good schedule of classes as the Seattle. With trying to transfer, do you even think I would have a chance at the Seattle school? What do you think I should do? Just go to Tacoma and make due with the schedule. Those 4 classes aren't offered fall, just one is, the rest are offered in Winter.

UW Seattle’s business program is more known, or at least this is what I been told.

this is just my suggestion. if you want to go to UW Seattle Foster, reject Tacoma’s offer and take the remaining 4 business classes at a CC.

I think you have a shot if you do super well on the WSA + personal statement. A couple of people (i heard) got in with a gpa of 3.0 and WSA score of around 5-6.

(ACCORDING TO MY FRIEND, SHE GOT THIS FROM THE FOSTER ADVISER) There’s a 60% chance Foster will not read the personal statement if you have a high gpa and there’s a 40% chance they will read your personal statement if your GPA is low. so your best shot is to get at least a 5 average on your WSA.

the average WSA for the incoming fall is around the low 4 range.

^ “UW Seattle’s business program is more well known”

That is what I’ve been told too.
Also, just to build on top of your post sf88, if ashber you could somehow find the time to apply to UW Seattle instead, do it. I’ve been told by relatives (who live in Seattle) that its a better option to go for, safer cleaner and all… general environmental stuff really.

I’ll confirm that the city of Seattle is a much nicer environment than the city of Tacoma; safer, cleaner, prettier, many more options for off-campus activities.

Hi

My son got accepted from High School to UW Tacoma.

Saw your comment.

Wondered if you know how tough it will be for him after a year to transfor to UW Seattle?

Thank you.

It might be tough.

He would have to apply just like any other transfer applicant.

The UW doesn’t really like transferring freshmen and transfers from 4-years (your case), either in or out of state. The UW does like a lot transfers from community colleges, who have Associates and/or 90 completed credits.

For example, in the Autumn 2011 90% of all transfers were from community colleges, and just 10% from 4-years. ([Quick Facts | University of Washington](http://admit.washington.edu/quickfacts#transfer-admission)).

If he really wants to go to the UW Seattle, it’s better for him to start at a community college and try applying every application period from there.

I’m going to have to second seatac’s comment. I don’t have much else to add but to affirm the statement.

Yeah, I was told (without any further explanation) by a non-admissions staff, that they almost never allow people to transfer from UW Tacoma to Seattle or UW Bothell to Seattle. But you can take courses cross campus, and contrary to the FALSE assertions made above, if you live near UW Tacoma you’re in a safer area that isn’t (in my opinion) quite as nice, but I still think it’s a lovely area. But yeah, it’s much safer in the nice part of Tacoma. Just don’t go to Lakewood or Portland Avenue, et cetera.

I would totally let my kid live in dorms at UW Tacoma.

My butt Seattle is safer than Tacoma. You don’t hear about people running around on shooting sprees down there. The North Seattle and to a lesser extent, U-district area is very disturbing to be around at night. Assualts and thefts aren’t uncommon.

I have lived in various places in Seattle and Tacoma and currently live near UW Tacoma. I would certainly say that UW Tacoma is a safer area than UW Seattle, and in general, Tacoma is safer than Seattle.
That said, UW Tacoma (imo) is a very over priced community college for adults that want to continue education. If you want to go to UW Seattle as a transfer, I suggest going to Tacoma Community College and transferring.

I would choose Seattle campus over Tacoma any day.
To be honest with you, I would suggest pursuing Foster only if you have strong writing skills. Given your GPA, you would have to score 5-6 on the WSA to get into Foster. Also, write a really really good personal statement. I agree with the above comment that they might never read you PS, but if overall percentage is low then your admission decision greatly depends on your PS.
Good luck with you decision!!

Haha, sgcore, I think that the poster you referred your comment to is already graduating :)

Seattle is safer than Tacoma, but UW Tacoma is in the nicer (nicest perhaps, other than Proctor/Stadium) part of Tacoma. Also, for some reason yahoos and nut jobs come to UW to try to cause problems, but they don’t do that in UW Tacoma. Remember when all those guys from Lakewood/Ft. Lewis area were coming up here and beating up and robbing people? Well those sort of guys are all over the rest of Tacoma, not near UWT, but they certainly do come to UW Seattle looking for trouble. That’s why I suggest that if any of you ladies see a nice guy like myself walking in your general direction, ask us to walk you to your door.

I know me and all the guys in my late night study groups walk girls home all the time. I would feel like such a jerk if something happened after being out late in Odegaard with me.

lol seatac, why didn’t it cross my mind to read the date? oh well…

now I wonder what this poster decided. hmmm…

@sgcore: I can pretty much guarantee that with a 2.8 GPA they did not get into UW Seattle.
