Brief Synopsis: I attended a top 40 university at a state school in Econ B.S. I was dismissed two years ago because of poor grades -below 2.0 (around 1.8-1.9) (had a personal serious health issue and I have documents/letters from doctors/hospital notes).

Now, I have an option of going back to this school-they're still considering I believe, but since I'm out of state the tuition is like 26-30k a year.

Right now, I'm hoping that I end up at UCLA/UC Berkeley, where the tuition is much cheaper but it's pretty much a dream right now.

What can I do from now till I apply(maybe?) besides attend Community college classes or will a school like UCLA/UC Berkeley won't even consider because of my past.

well, its going to be difficult, since your gpa at the other school is really low...

however, just take 30 units @ a community college (in california) and then make sure to mention in the essay that you would like to apply for "admissions by exception"; but make sure that you get a 3.8- 4.0 at your CCC (in order to prove that you are worthy). Here is more about it:
