Transfer with 2.9 GPA

Hello Everyone,

I am currently a Sophomore at John Jay College with 58 credits completed but 71 credits in total with the classes I am registered to take this semester. I attend John Jay College of Criminal Justice majoring in Forensic Science: Molecular Biology. I have a passion for English and Literature so I would like to transfer to Cornell University College of Arts and Science and major in English. Do I have a chance of getting accepted with my GPA?

A Few Extracurricular Activities:

Tutor in English and writing
Intern at the Writing Center at John Jay College
Volunteer SUNY Downstate Medical Center
Intern at Seventeen Magazine

I don’t intend to be rude, but what do you think with a 2.9 GPA? What would be the point of being a junior transfer anyways, can you not get a degree in English at John Jay?

I’m not sure if there’s a common data set specifically for transfers, but that is far far below the average GPA for incoming freshmen.

Cornell Transfer Application Policy:

Strong academic record at the college level. In general, competitive applicants have at least a 3.0 (B) average. Note: Applied Economics and Management and Biological Sciences require a minimum GPA of 3.5.

I would probably say your chances are next to nil.
