Transfer?

I know this is a super long read, but I would really appreciate the advice. Thanks in advance.

Alright, I'm currently a junior in high school (well I guess senior now). I go to an all-boys Catholic school in San Francisco. It's a good school academically, but there are others that are better. Anyways, I have a 4.0 uw GPA, and got a 2120 on the SAT I the first time around. I'm waiting to get back my scores for the June test. I haven't taken SAT II's yet either. I'm ranked 1/178 in my class. I'll have taken 8-9 APs by graduation. I also play varsity bball (starter junior and senior year), I'm the president of the European-American Club, and I'm in stuff like NHS too.

I want to go to a top International Relations school like Georgetown, Johns Hopkins, Tufts, or Stanford.

I don't really like my school very much. I don't really fit in, at all. My school revolves around the hip-hop culture, and I'm from a small suburban area that is mostly white. I like my school's diversity, but I don't like the fact that white kids (20% of student body) aren't accepted very well.

Then, this last Saturday at the SAT, I saw all my old friends from my old middle school. They all go to the local public high school. I realized how much I missed them. How much I'd missed out on, not going to school with them? I especially missed all the girls, omg, I can't tell you how much I miss them now.

So basically, I'm really bummed out right now. I realize how much I miss my old friends and that they were much better friends than the ones I have now from my HS.

I've recently connected with my old friends and most of them seem to be glad to hear from me. They are asking me if I'm gonna transfer. The problem is I'd be transferring from an okay (not great by any stretch) private school to an not-so-great (it's not a really bad public school, but it isn't some magnet school either) public school my senior year. I know I'd be happier at the public school, but I don't want to **** up my chances at colleges, merit aid from schools, or scholarships either. How would transferring affect this?

I really want to transfer, but not if it's gonna really hurt my college chances. What if I had a legitmate reasoning (besides happiness) for transferring? How would my GPA and rank be transferred over? Would I be seen as an applicant from a public or private school or both? Would Georgetown especially not like me transferring from a Catholic school?

Please help.

Just hang out with the white kids if the black or asian ones don't accept you. It's not like you're the only white kid there, but I understand where you're coming from.

I'd tough it out and stay one more year. It would probably be better if you stayed in your public high school for three years, then transfered to the catholic school, rather than the other way around. You could visit your friends on weekends and after school.

Anybody besides this 7th grader got any advice. I'd like somebody who actually knows how it will affect my chances. However, if you just want to voice your opinion that's cool to. Thanks for the bump though Johnathan.

That was like...mean.

I offered you advice. You can take it or leave it. You should appreciate anyone who takes a few seconds to type just for you. You've wasted like thirty seconds of my life.

Thanks a lot.

I didn't mean to offend you, but I mean a 7th grader isn't gonna be able to help me with advice about transferring high schools.

Honestly, I think you should stay. You're performing well, and you don't have much time left there. You're almost out. You have really great chances of going to a top college from your position now. I wouldn't risk that if I were you. Maybe one of the reasons why you're doing so well is because without many friends at your present school, you don't have many distractions. Public High school is way different from an All-Boys school. It's your call in the end, but if college is your highest priority, I wouldn't switch.

I am kind of in the same boat. I am considering transferring between two top 50 high schools. Seeing as they are both really similar, I am probably going to stay, and I think you should too. If you have survived through that school for 3 years, you can handle one more.

Thanks for the advice guys.

honestly, Jonathan k, ur advice sucked.
