Transfer

I was wondering if it is possible to transfer to CMU halfway through the year. That is, I would like to attend there starting next semester. Thanks.

Sorry that no one has responded. I don't believe transferring mid-year is possible, it didn't say anything about that possiblity on the CMU transfer web page (at least not that I could find), but I'd recommend sending an e-mail to a CMU admission officer to find out for sure.

Hope this helps.

I transferred to CMU in the Spring semester. It is definitely possible.

Did you transfer as a 1st year student? I did not think that was possible either. Also what was your major? Maybe that makes a difference.

I transferred in the Spring semester of my Junior year, into H&SS, intending to major in History and Economics.

I have nothing but good things to say about CMU regarding the process. When I first met with the H&SS advisor, she had already looked over my transcripts in detail and prepared several different plausible course outlines for the next several semesters. At every step of the process they were actively involved and interested in helping to streamline the transition. And it wasn't easy -- shoehorning in two majors in three semesters took a lot of finesse.

They did tell me that transferring is quite difficult -- they statistic I was given for my year was 3 / 81 accepted. This is believable to me as, in fact, I had already applied and been soundly rejected one semester earlier. I thought at the time that I presented a fairly solid transfer profile, and the rejection really forced a re-evaluation of my academic record.

Anyway, hope that helps.

Yes, thank you so much for your prompt reply:)

Hello waldo_pepper, I have just thought of another couple of questions ... the first mundane, the second more complex. First, is it easy to get university housing? Second, did CMU meet your expectations? Some people have described CMU as not a "typical" college experience, mainly due to its intense work load and techie focus. I was curious about why you choose to transfer. Where were you transferring from, and did you experience any culture shock?
