I've taken 4 college classes in the last 2 years (3 at a CSU, 1 at a CC). I'm currently taking 2 more at a CSU and plan on taking 2 this summer at a CC.

How do you find out if these courses transfer or not? Or what they transfer as (as in .. do they fulfill GEs or do you just get credit or..)?

Also - is this a smart thing to do? I've heard it saves money, but I don't want to waste time taking classes if I don't know if they even transfer. :

You can try checking on http://www.assist.org/web-assist/welcome.html to see what transfers. However, you can also talk to the counseling department at your CC to see what they say.

Oh and I almost forgot, if you're close enough to campus, you could make an appointment with a counselor on campus to find out. And yet another option, attend an early Orientation session b/c the OCs will be able to find out what transfers as well.

I heard from someone at UCLA that transfer credits from a CC don't transfer points towards your GPA at UCLA, which might hurt your GPA. Not sure if it's 100% true though.

i just went to see a councellor about this today. When you transfer GE's from semester system to quarter system, you will sometimes end up with 4.5 units for a GE (on the UCLA DPR). UCLA will round this value up .5 for three classes ONLY. (btw, most GEs are 5 units) So if you take courses at other semester system colleges over the summer, make sure you plan accordingly.
