I am going into my second year at the University of Michigan and due to cost I realized I need to transfer in-state to Penn State main campus. I was a business major at U of M but am now ineligible for Penn State business, so I was thinking I'd go into Industrial Engineering. I would have to get my pre-reqs for the ENGR school this year coming up, but it would throw off my business degree. I have a 3.07 GPA at UM and I'd say my performance would remain about the same. I have W for a computer science class that I took first semester. I had 3.87 GPA in high school. My brother goes to PSU currently. If I make this decision I basically put all my marbles in getting into PSU Engineering school so it's do or die. Is the admissions tough? Do I have a shot? Any advice?

Engineering is definitely one of the tougher majors to get into. I think you have a shot. I would honestly not put something like this on the opinion of the CC crowd. You can just call up the head of the department or the admissions office and they will normally be honest about your chances. Best of luck.

If you need to transfer, I doubt you will be eligible for fall transfer (most fall domestic applications had their deadlines by August 1). Can you stick it out for another semester at Michigan and apply for a spring/winter transfer? Call the Penn State admissions office and ask how they do transfer admissions.
