My first 2 years in ACC was horrible. I took 38 hours and got a bunch of C's. Then I transfered to Texas State and got a 3.08 GPA there. My cumulative GPA is 2.82 with 50 hours. I am regretting about my laziness, and now I really wanna get into a good college like UT. On UT's website it says it requires a 3.0, which my TX State GPA barely meets the requirement. My friend told me that the admission office would take my TX State GPA more seriously since it's not a community college. So what are my chances of getting in? Should I spent one or two more semester to raise my GPA? Any opinions are welcome.

UT doesn’t care what college you come from (unless it’s Ivy League). You don’t really have much of a chance getting in. You should probably raise your GPA to at least a 3.3. Otherwise, I don’t see how you’re going to get in unless you’re really lucky.

Ditto what Xcellerator said - unfortunately the only thing you can do is raise the GPA even higher. What major are you trying to get into?

Although UT takes positive academic trends into account, only cumulative GPAs are taken into consideration.

If you earn all A’s for for however many semesters are required to bring your GPA up to a 3.3, I would say you have a decent shot at getting accepted as a liberal arts major, assuming you write excellent essays.

You may want to reconsider taking some of the classes that you bombed as well. There is a part of UT’s application where you are able to “explain yourself” in an additional essay if you want to. If you show that you can get A’s in classes you screwed up in as well as straight A’s in all other new classes, then you will probably enhance your chances.

Its not impossible. I’ve seen it happen.
