Hello! I am currently an student at Cornell in Engineering and I am looking to transfer to a school in France. I am originally French, and I am having a very hard time adapting and am not very happy with the social life and atmosphere of Cornell. Can anyone give me their advice and if anyone knows how the transfer process works, can anyone please explain? I am very unfamiliar with all of this, and have just started thinking about it, but i would love some feedback!

Just wondering? Why are you transferring out of Cornell?Cornell is a great school!

You need to contact the university that you want to study at, and ask them what you need to do. Many European universities do not accept transfer credits and would require you to start over as a first year student.

The campus is beautiful and the people are great but the cultural gap for me is too great and hard to handle… I have always lived in big cities and Ithaca is so small!

Ok great thank you! Do you know if Cornell has a special policy in terms of letting its students transfer, and how long it takes?

Are you asking whether Cornell will let its students transfer out? If so, to my knowledge, no school can hold you captive - not in the U.S at least. You should be able to transfer out at any time.

What’s more important, though, is the transfer policies of the university (or universities) you intend to apply to. I would take happymom’s advice and contact the school(s) you’re interested in.

I meant a special policy as in maybe it takes a semester or two to transfer out or whatever.

Again, I don’t think that’s the case. I could be wrong, though. Your adviser should be able to tell you definitively.

(By the way, I wasn’t trying to be snotty in the post above. I was kind of joking around. Sorry if the humor didn’t translate.)

No worries. We dont hold students captive in France either (just in case).

Ah I love Ithaca I live like an hr away! Lol

I figure very few of your credits would transfer to a European university.

I know how you feel; I’ve moved before, and it sucks. But I am certain that if you leave Cornell, you will regret it down the road. New York is one of the best places to live. And based on what I’ve heard, the social life isn’t bad at Cornell; you just need to find a group that matches you.

After all, did you apply to Cornell for its atmosphere and social life? Or the education they can offer you. I assume the latter.
