Hi guys.

Is it difficult to transfer out of UCSB to UC San Diego or UCLA?

I have read that UC to UC transfers occur on a pretty low basis already, so is hoping to transfer from a mid-tier school to a higher one going to be even harder than usual?
Is it better to try transferring after freshmen year or after sophomore year?

Clearly, maintaining a high GPA is of utmost importance in transfers, so do you think that I would have a good chance of transferring out of UCSB if I managed to get a GPA of at least 3.0 (moderately low)?

Rather than going to a UC to transfer to a different UC, just go to CC instead, then transfer.

you can only xfer as a junior.

Xfer within UCs is more difficult that the CC route; given the budget crisis, there has been talk about not even allowing any xfer students except those from CC’s. If Brown’s budget proposition fails this fall, this will likely come back.

If you have a 3.0 GPA you will not be even close to competitive for most majors at UCLA; see the chart at [Profile of Admitted Transfer Students by Major, Fall 2010 - UCLA Undergraduate Admissions](http://www.admissions.ucla.edu/prospect/adm_tr/Tr_Prof10_mjr.htm)
