transfering to LACs and other non-ucs from california

Hey all, I was wondering if any of you knew about transferring to LACs and other colleges that aren't UCs from a community college in california. How is the process different? For example, I'm particularly interested in UChicago. I will be starting community college soon.. I come from a different background than most kids. In high school, I was just mediocre and I had family issues and all that stuff. I feel this could be a second chance for me.

Is there a chance for me at all, since these would be very competitive? I looked at the IGETC requirements, they seem simple enough.. are there things I should know? such as maybe some schools would look at community college students in a bad light.. or have a slimmer chance? since I will be from a community college, where many transfer to UCs, how will it be differnt if I tried to go to UChicago or Vassar, etc..

Thanks.

*ps I have nothing against UCs but I feel they are not my fit

Well, welcome to the fun of transferring :)

I myself attend a Community College in cali. Every community college (at least all I know) have agreements with other Universities--you can start from there. However, because you are interested in a particular university...I would visit their site and look at their transfer requirements. Maybe they have a list of "recommended" courses that you should take for your major..then you go back to your CCC and check which courses articulate with those courses from UChicago. It's really the same process...but it is FARRR easier to transfer to an university within state---especially from CCC.

Good luck and PM me if you have any specific questions on what I had said. (I hope it made sense).
