In that case, it’s best if we shut the thread down.
What exactly is your passion; what do you WANT to do?
Have you looked outside of NYC for internships? If you’re dead set on wanting an internship, I suggest going to a region where being a Columbia student would be a novelty, so southeast or midwest. Understand that flooding the market with applications is like shooting a moving target with no practice; you may hit something, but the likelihood is low. Start working smarter; join professional organizations and start networking. Reach out to the alumni network and start building relationships. It can start with something as simple as “I’m very interested in your career, would you be available to discuss what path you took to get here?” OK, not that short, but you get the idea. As others have mentioned, how is your LinkedIn network looking? Have you joined in on any online industry discussions or seminars, many are free for college students. You definitely don’t need to come from a wealthy/connected family to build those contacts.
How much are your parents willing/able to pay and what schools would they consider worth their money? If your parents can’t/won’t pay for anything outside of a small list then your options are really to finish at Columbia (then apply to grad school that offers the major you want) or leave Columbia without a degree and find a school you can afford on your own when you turn 24 and don’t need your parents’ financial info. Will they let you live at home and work if you leave school without a degree?
