Transferring after 1st Semester Freshmen Year

I was wondering how high my chances of transferring from one institution to the next midway through my Freshmen year. Some things have come up within my family that requires me to be closer to home. The institution that I would transfer is easier to get accepted into than the one I am currently attending. Thank you!

It depends on the college you’re transferring to. See what their website says about minimum transfer credits. As long as you do well your first semester, you should be a good candidate for transfer.

You have to check the target school specifically on its transfer policies.

If it is an open admission community college, then you should be able to transfer there at any time. But a non-open admission school may have limitations regarding when you can start, and how much and what kind of transferable course work you need to complete before transfer.

OP, have you actually started at your current school? if not / or if you are within the insurance period, can you withdraw w/o penalty? if not, suggest contacting the new school directly asap to see if you could start there now (& if not, do they take spring entrants). Also, will finances be an issue?

off-topic, but @ucbalumnus- will try to remember to check your odometer tonight- looks as though it might be rolling over the big 7-0 today
