Transferring AP Credits to Cal Poly (GE Credits)

Hey guys,
I have taken several AP Tests (will do several in May as well), and was a little confused about what elective credits could be applied to GE units.
According to the AP Credit chart (link below), you can apply the AP credits to a certain class and typically 4-5 elective units. The column to the right of the description lists the CPSU GE Area. Can AP credit only be applied to those specific GE Areas? Also, how about the AP tests that don’t have a GE Area listed?

Yes, AP credit will only apply to the listed GE. If there is a specific course listed, but no GE, you get credit as if you had taken that course, but it doesn’t count for a GE. Elective credits are only really useful for majors that have “free electives”. Mechanical Engineering, for example, does not include free electives, so those credits don’t count towards your degree progress, although they do show up in your credit total.
