Transferring as a junior

Perhaps I should have searched for more financially-viable schools, but for whatever reason, I'm staying put for another year. I'm still not convinced I'll be completely happy and my options are open for transferring for the 2010-2011 school year, but I was wondering - I imagine it would be really hard to transfer with two years left (probably no study abroad), but is it possible to create a full life for yourself as a junior transfer? I don't know anyone who transferred after being a rising sophomore so I don't know who I can ask.

well i will be a jr transfer, so after this year, i can answer your question…

bump… please help!

My son transferred as a junior this past semester. It was certainly a transition semester. There were certain obstacles to overcome. First of all, his school did not give housing to transfers so he had to secure off campus housing. Living off campus had its pros and cons. It is nice to have your own room and a house to live in, yet it is a little isolating from campus and does make it harder to meet people and get involved. Fortunately, he had mostly nice housemates and the people next door were very friendly too. He made some other friends in his classes, so while I don’t think he has really found his niche yet, he was fine for the semester. Oh, I should mention that he was also a second semester transfer so came in during the middle of winter, middle of the school year and had a broken foot to boot. Given all that, he did a great job of managing through and I think he will really find his place come fall when he has the opportunity to join in on campus activities and his housemates are changing up a bit along with all new classes.
I really don’t see a problem coming in as a junior transfer, but just be prepared for that transition semester and also know that all your credits may not transfer. My son has to spend an extra year at the new school because of this, but he is fine with it and looking forward to the extra time as an undergrad. He is no rush to graduate and have to work for a living! haha
