Transferring as College Soph/Any Success?

I'd like to hear from anyone who was accepted as a sophomore college transfer student; particularly to a small liberal arts college.

It seems like most of the schools D is looking at say they accept sophomore transfers, but on this board, none have been admitted. Transferring is hard enough, but I am beginning to suspect that sophomore transferring is even harder.

If you did get in, please tell me where, what your stats were and why you think they accepted you. Thanks!

The difficulty with soph transfers is that applications are due after only 1 semester of college has been completed, so much more weight is given to the HS record (gpa and course rigor) and test scores. Thus, what is evaluated it is usually not substantially different from fr admissions. Add to that, the fact that transfer acceptance rates for many schools are lower than for fr admissions.

That said, there are still many soph transfers, often kids who were competitive candidates as fr applicants, they may have chosen a different school for various reasons (perceived fit, merit scholarship, etc.) or been WLed. My D1 transferred to Y and was also accepted at Amherst as a soph, but she was also accepted to these schools as a fr applicant. Not all, but most of the other soph transfers her year were also strong fr applicants but instead chose large merit scholarships, a military academy, another top school, etc.
