Transferring back midyear to my old school w/ a really different system?

OK. At the beginning of this year, my parents moved me to another state (new business) and left my two siblings with my grandparents in our old house, and the rest of my family was to follow us the following year after my big bro was done with his senior year. However, I'm finding that I really don't like it here in the new state. Schools aren't very challenging, the school is falling apart, etc, etc. It would be easy to move back BUT the educational system over here is different from the one in my old school.

-My school right now does classes by semester where you start classes in August, go to four different subjects for 5 days a week for about 1.5 hrs a day, and it lasts until December. The old school started around September, with 8 different subjects alternated between A and B days. That means that I will have finished some subjects here in my new state by December before my old state but at the same time, they will be halfway done with some while I haven't started them. My old state also doesn't do semester exams, and they have one big exam at the end of the year with the accumulation of the year's material. Also, my new state stretches AP world history and English for 5 days a week for two semesters, but my old state alternates between the two classes depending in the days the whole year. My old school also offers certain advanced classes that my new one doesn't, so that makes things slightly more problematic.

-I had a 5.446 freshman GPA, and I was ranked one out of five hundred. Is it still possible to secure it if I come back? (I really don't expect to, but it'd be nice...)

-Have you ever been faced with this type of problem? Do you think that schools have some form of make up class or something of the sort?

-My parents are really making me go back now, and I would (as I don't like my new school that much, either.) Is it practical that they allot me some time to catch up with the subjects, and I catch up with the material?

Thanks!

I had somewhat of the same dilemma. I was with a school that had basic classes and I wanted to switch to another that had even better and more challenging classes.

The school that you are wanting to switch back to should rank you, but your spot may be lower than 1 out of 500.

I don’t think that schools have a form of make up classes, but I’m pretty sure that they would want to see their students succeed and would do whatever possible to accomplish that. Example: Letting a student catch back up on their own, while attending the current pace at which the others are at. Ex: Allowing the student to stay later after school as a way of assistance to get back on track. Etc.

About the AP classes, I’m not sure about the policies on that for the school you’re switching to, but I do know that there is usually a “cut-off” date for those who are wanting to change an AP class for another AP class and those who just want to take an AP class.

Also, keep in mind that your old school will be receiving a transcript of what you have done so far at you’re current school, so that may affect things (classes) too.

I think if you explain your situation and determination for wanting to get back on track, they will try to help you in any way possible.

Good luck! :)
