Transferring credit?

Hi,

I’m totally new to this stuff (incoming freshman) and this might be a dumb question, but I was wondering about transferring credits. I was thinking of taking one summer term course (5 quarter credits) from a local university (a good university, definitely would meet any requirements of being comparable in difficulty) before I enter, just to acclimate myself to a college course (and if I bomb it, it stays off my transcript). I would be a non-matriculating student - but assuming I do okay, is it likely that Barnard would let me transfer those credits in? All I could find is information for transfer students - is there any information anywhere about transferring credits when you don’t have nearly enough to be considered a transfer student?

Thanks!

You can apply for transfer credit after you begin your 2nd semester (spring of freshman year) at Barnard. See: [Your First Year at Barnard College: FAQ: Previous College Credits](http://barnardfirstyear.blogspot.com/2010/09/faq-previous-college-credits.html)

If you get anything less than an A you might want to hold off on requesting credit, because if the issue of how Barnard computes the GPA for purposes of latin honors. That is, you may not want consideration of a grade that would bring down your overall GPA. On the other hand, if it takes care of a 9-ways-of-knowing requirement you would rather not have to deal with at Barnard, it might be worth it.

(P.S. I found this by Googling these words – “barnard transfer credits” – it was the 5th result on the 1st page of Google results, titled “Your First Year at Barnard College: FAQ: Transfer Credit for…” )
