I am curious for people who have transferred whether it was a difficult transition from their old school to the new one academically, socially , emotionally etc.

I am planning on transferring this fall but am having serious second doubts because I am not sure I want to start over completely.

hehe there are several of these kinda posts . . i actually posted a similar question but didnt get a single response =p hopefully this bump will get us some feedback :)

I'm interested in knowing about ppls experience ajusting to transferring too...I'm transferring to a university in the city from a small rural lac, yeah figured I'd just swing the complete opposite direction haha.

I'm kindof wondering how hard it is for transfers to get involved in the social scene, getting a group of friends, etc. I'm thinking it will be difficult at first, but i'm not really worried about it. If you're worried about starting at your transfer school, think about all the ways your new school will be better than your old one...for me I can't see any way my new school can be worse, which makes me feel better...ha.

I transferred (okay, it was back in the dark ages, but I think this kind of thing is the same now as then). To be honest, I think you do miss the intensity of the freshman bonding, when everybody is in the same boat. Still, I did not find it difficult to make friends and had very close friends by part way through my sophomore year. I was put in a suite with one other sophomore transfer and we had each other to hang out with in the beginning. Others on my floor were very open and pretty inclusive. My suite-mate and I ended up without much in common and I became close to others in my dorm.

One thing I didn't do, which I recommend others do: I did not join clubs/organizations... I had a serious BF, eventually my husband, and hung out with him and my dorm friends when I wasn't focused on academics.

In my day, they also didn't have Transfer Orientation (heck, they barely had Freshman Orientation - I think there was one "Assembly" for an hour or so the day before classes started). So that provides opportunities to meet other transfers and start to build relationships.
