First off, a lot of students take pride attending Penn State Erie, The Behrend College. The school is the second biggest in the Penn State campus system and is also second strongest in everything, from academics, social life, clubs/organizations and even graduation placement. Even though it is true, that most students attend University Park, Penn State Erie is actually the top 2nd choice for students attending Penn State and have students from largest backgrounds. ALOT of students choose to attend Erie over University Park since only 70% students transfer to UP after 2 years. The two majors that most students study are either Business or Engineering. Engineering is the strongest program on campus and is very regionally and even in some cases nationally known. Because of most students studying engineering, the vast majority of the student body is male. The main reason students choose to study engineering for example here compared to University Park is because there is special engineering majors that University Park doesnt offer such Software Engineering and Plastic Engineering and there is also the basics like Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical etc. The job placement for students getting internships and full time offers is amazing. Every semester there is a career fair in the fall and spring that various different types of companies small and large come and recruit students. Companies such as General Electric, Microsoft, Honda, Mitsubishi etc etc These are the same companies that come to the University Park career days and recruit the same students. My one engineering friend received a offer of $70,000 starting salary in his last senior year even before graduating! Part of the student population, there a very large influx of international students, especially from Asian countries such as India and China. On campus housing is actually pretty decent, we have a honors residence, single room residence dorms and of course the freshman halls. Alot of the dorms are updated and look very decent and most of the them are actually suite styled living. There is on campus apartments which are alright but we also have an apartment complex across the street called UGATES. That is where you can find the vast majority of parties and craziness that happens on the weekends. Truthfully, there isnt alot to do on campus, organizations do sponsor Friday night events to keep people away from partying and such and some of the events are pretty good. However, the campus can get boring at times especially during the winter and this actually allows for students to study alot, which is never a bad thing. In conclusion, I have to say that Penn State Erie is the best option for students who want to have something different from University Park. It isnt like other penn state campuses because this one actually has decent academics and activities and most students live on campus or near campus. I am proud to say that I actually enjoyed being here for the first two years before I transferred to University Park.

@obvian i emailed the admission office to change my alternate campus to erie… lets see what happens

I know you are not an admission officer, but still what do you think, can i get in? Does being international student increase my chances?

international has nothing to do with it

Hi!
I didn’t get into UP, though I got into Harrisburg. What do you guys think? Does anyone know anything about Harrisburg?

Hey,

I want to pursue Aerospace engineering too! I had a friend from my high school who studied there to! He went transferred to UP for Chemical engineering. We are from Dubai, but are Indians.

When are you transferring to UP?

@stanford93
Did your friend study at Erie campus and transfer this semester?
If so, I know him lol.

HI. I’m student from Malaysia. Is it hard to transfer to PSU branch campuses? My sat isn’t great and my cgpa for college is just 3.3. I just finished 33 credit and I stopped to take a break…
Besides, is it possible to transfer to UP after the sophomore year?? Is that guarantee transfer??

Very helpful, thank you.

I have one question though…you said astronomy (astrophysics) requires a change of campus after one year.

But what if you go to a local branch for your first two years and then declare your major as astronomy? You can go to UP for your junior year, but they have to switch to another campus for your senior year? I think I’m understanding this wrong…

Penn State branch campuses require early change of campus for certain of classes start to run out within your third year usually.

So in the case of astronomy, a student would attend branch campus for one year and then transfer to University Park for 2nd year.

If you go to branch for two years and then decide that you want to do astronomy you would be 1 year behind on graduation because your academic plan required you to transfer in your 2nd year for certain courses etc

Hi, do you know which campus is strongest for finance? Thank you

Can you study at University Park for 4 years without studying at the branch campuses?

^^^yes.

obwian22, some people say that many erie campus students are local and they go home on weekends. Do you have a rough amount of out-of-state and international student? What do you feel about campus activity? Thanks.

There are 4700 students on campus. About half of those live in campus and another 1000 live off campus apartments. Penn State Erie actually has the most amount of on campus housing than any other penn state commonwealth campus. Some students do go home on weekends however alot still stay during weekends. Penn State erie actually has alot of out of state and international students. I dont have a number but its a good amount. The campus is good with activity on weekends and weekdays, had a good time attending there.

Any more quesitons, let me know.

How is life in these branch campuses? well, as a testerone filled 19yo I must know what life is like in PSU UP or Branch Campuses. Also, anyone know which off campus housing options are the best for PSU Harrisburg?

Hello! I ha a question about the 2+2 method.
I am a high school senior about to start applying to colleges. I would like to attend Penn State Erie, The Behrend College for two years and then transfer to University Park for my junior and Senior year. I would like to go for the Creative Writing major at Behrend, but I was unsure whether or not those credits would transfer to the English major with a Writing Concentration that University Park offers. Does anybody know anything about that? Any information would be helpful.
Also, do most students coming from a Branch Campus get accepted into University Park as transfers? Or is acceptance guaranteed for transfers coming from a branch to the main? Does it matter if your SAT/ACT scores and high school GPA wasn’t good enough for you to get into University Park? Also, is the transferring process easy for someone going from a branch to the main?
Thank you for your help!

Please read my review earlier in this thread about Penn State Erie, it might give you better understanding what goes on in these campuses.

Also please tell me you were just kidding about “testosterone”, that is how you spell it btw. How does having testosterone do with anything about what life goes on at Penn State lol? Why do you “MUST” know? ROFL!

You can find more information on the first page about transferring to University Park which I wrote. But essentially all the branch campus classes are the same at the ones at University Park and they will transfer. Penn State doesnt call “transferring” going from Branch campus to main campus. It is called as a moveup because the process is automatic.

Basically, once you get into a major after your sophomore year at Penn State, you declare your major based on your campus. If you get into your major for Junior year, you can attend any campus/major/program you want without restrictions. SAT/ACT scores and high school GPA doesnt matter to move to University Park for Junior year.

The “transfer process” I hate using that term because it alot more simpler than that. You dont even fill out an application. You go on the website, fill out your top 3 majors, and after your sophomore year if you get accepted to your major you will “transfer”. The same process works for students who started at University Park from the beginning. If they dont have the grades/classes they wont be attending their intedned major at University Park either. All students at all Penn State campuses are equal.

Cheers!

bump…

Obiwan,
@obwian22

Weren’t you the guy who worked in penn state admissions offices for a little? I read about you on an earlier thread.
