Yes that is true.
@Nikki1079

@obwian22 Do you think you could chance me for main or give me suggestions? I know so many people must have bothered you with this, but I’m just so worried since I love University Park.

I chose summer session. Major DUS.
Took 9 AP’s and honors classes
Uw: 3.2
W: 3.5
SATS:1620

Good extracurriculars and essay even though I don’t think they care about that.

I know I’m on the lower end with stats, that’s why I hope summer helps. I also took the December SATs and ACTs so hopefully I did better on those but no guarantee. Any advice?

@obwian22 I am truly really sorry for bothering you. You must be extremely busy, I’m just anxious and Penn State University Park is my absolute number one. I hope you understand.

In state Pennsylvania btw

@Nikki1079
Considering you are a in state student and your gpa and SAT are on the low side, most likely they will put you in at a branch campus. There is a small chance though if they call them to change your application for Undecided(DUS) and summer then they admit you, but that is a small chance.

Penn State doesn’t weight GPA’s btw, they say they take that into consideration but your unweighted GPA is gonna be evident for admissions which is low. Your SAT’s are low too, they need to be at least minimum 1700-1750 for even summer session.

My suggestion to you is wait for your decision and see what happens. But a branch campus is not a bad idea. You only stay 2 years and then transfer guaranteed into UP. I was an out of state student doing this and it was the best decision of my life.

Any my more questions let me know…

@obwian22 I actually retook my SATs in December and received a 1760… But they refuse to accept it since it’s after priority line now even though, a month ago, I was actually told by a penn state admission counselor that I need to take my SATs again, send it in and they will just simply add it to my application. Do you think the 1760 would save me for summer and DUS and What should I do?

@Nikki1079 they will probably accept your new sat scores if you move out of the priority “line” and apply as an after priority applicant. The reason they aren’t accepting them now is because all materials have to be complete by Nov 30th to receive priority status.
So you have two options…keep your application as it is and see what happens. If you don’t get summer admission you can ask to be reconsidered as a regular applicant with your new sat scores. This option covers all bases as long as they are willing to reconsider you. Second option is to apply regular decision with new sat scores.

@jlhpsu I’m just so fed up because the counselor I spoke to a month ago told me they would just add my scores along to my priority application! If I knew they wouldn’t consider it, I wouldnt have wasted so much time and money. Its just wrong to be given false information from an admission counselor of theirs.

@jlhpsu she claimed they would just add it along to my application since I had all materials in, including my initial SATs, hence I was given false information from an admission counselor which I don’t believe is right. I actually ended up tearing up on the phone with them, even though that sounds lame.

@jlhpsu what would you recommend doing?

@Nikki1079 I’d call back and speak to a different person. You’ve gotten two different answers from two different counselors. I’d call again and explain and see what they say. If they won’t take the new SAT’s then there is nothing to do but wait and see what happens. I think you still have a shot at summer.

@jlhpsu I will try that when they get back from their holiday break as well as emailing again. Thank you so much and I really hope I do too

Hi all, do you know which campus branch is the strongest for finance?
Behrend
So if I am accepted to their Lehigh campus for engineering and I complete the 2 years and apply for admittance to main campus my soph year and I am in good standing I will be admitted? I just received acceptance letter and I have many questions. They do not mention a 2 plus 2 is that implied? They do state engineering.
I know that some majors can be completed all at one branch and then there are few that must be finished up at UP. I believe engineering is one of those majors. At some branch campuses certain engineering majors need to move up after the first year. You may need to check on this with your branch or even with Main.
What do you mean “Lehigh”? Lehigh is a separate, high-ranked university.
Maybe he means “Lehigh Valley”?
@RAT1966 if your intentions are going to graduate engineering at main campus, then yes that is what happens. Except you dont really apply, its more a automatic decision depending if you get the minimum GPA and do the pre rec courses.
During your sophomore year, you get to decide your major, you fill out a quick form that says your top 3 choices. Some engineering majors can be completed at other Penn State courses such as Harrisburg or Erie.
Cheers!
@obwian22 im pretty sure i read in one of the earlier pages of this thread that you did the 2+2 and transferred to UP. did you have any problems with friends and housing? (keeping in touch with the ones from the branch campus, making new friends at UP/were they friendly towards you or were they just in their own circle of friends). tbh im a little introverted so this is something I worry about a little; I was accepted to the altoona campus.
I’m not really sure how the housing system works either, and could you tell me anything you know about the altoona campus? like, anything lol
PSU is known to have great alumni as well, but how do they actually help/interact with graduating students?
I feel like this college would be stingier with financial aid towards out of state students, which is what i am. is it right to think this way? I know psu is a public college so theyd probably favor in state students more, but still. my stats are only average, nothing outstanding. is there still a chance of me being able to get anything at all?
