My daughter got admitted into the College of arts and Sciences but we asked for the College of Engineering. Is there any way we can transfer? How easy is it?
@sumanc75 - I think it depends on her grades and test scores. They may have put her in the College of Arts and Sciences as a Pre-Engineering major if her stats were a little low. If she starts taking the classes that engineers need (calculus + science) and does really well, she should be able to transfer in. But, I have heard the statistic that only about 20% of students on the pre-engineering track actually make it in due to their performance not being high enough. Yet, I do know of one student who had applied to A&S, and then after being admitted transferred into Engineering, but she had the grades and test scores to have gotten in originally. I’d call the admissions office or the College of Engineering (or both) and ask. If you don’t get your question answered, keep searching until you get someone who is willing to spend the time answering your questions. That may be the College of Engineering instead of admissions.
Thank you. I will ask during our campus tour.
@sunamc75 I hope your daughter called to check if her stats are close. At CU Boulder, are a lot of very disgruntled Arts and Sciences students who cannot work their way into engineering. They can study computer sciences though, which is very strong at CU or math or physics, and still take some engineering classes, but CU Boulder does have a higher bar for Engineering admissions than they do for Arts and Sciences. Leeds school of business also is a higher bar, for admissions but a bit easier to transfer in, and if she likes math, she could look at doing a finance major, at Leeds. If she is very certain she wants mechanical, electrical or other engineering discipline it might be safer to enroll in a school that will allow her to major in engineering with her high school stats. It may be tough, though to get through any engineering program, and especially if her math is weaker than other Engineering students, but students can and do succeed by getting a lot of tutoring in math related subjects. Good luck.
