I got into CU Boulder as a pre-engineering student. I applied to the college of engineering with a major in aerospace. I have the grades and the SAT scores to get into the program. I checked my admission decision and it says I was accepted to the college of Arts and Sciences as a pre-engineering major. What does that mean? Is this what happens to everybody else? Am I just no good enough for the college of engineering and need to prove that I am? Is this the normal acceptance routine? can someone please give me some help?

How about a telephone call to CU?

People are accepted directly into the engineering school, but it is not unusual for some to be accepted into A&S (the biggest college at CU by far). You would have to apply for admission to the engineering school at some point, probably after freshman year.

You might need more core classes (physics, math, chemistry) and those courses are in A&S. You need to talk to the engineering department and ask specifically what you would need to do AND how many transfer students they accept per year from another college at CU. When I went there, a classmate wanted to transfer from A&S to the business school. This woman had a 4.0 and was Phi Beta Kappa. Nope. They took only 5 intra-school transfers that year, and she didn’t make the cut. They took transfers from other universities, but not from within CU colleges…

If you are taking all non-engineering classes, it is cheaper to be in A&S.

Check this out:
www.colorado.edu/engineering/node/301. It’s a link to a lot of information about intra-university transfers. If it doesn’t work, just go to CU engineering school web site and search for same. There’s definitely a path for you to get into engineering school from the college of arts and sciences; I just don’t know how competitive it is. Maybe others have insight. You appear to be a very strong candidate so don’t lose hope!

those two links have all the info you need to help answer your questions. the 3rd is just a powerpoint CU made on the Pre-engineering major
